Katerina Blogs: In the heat of preparations

So,Christmas holidays are officially over for most of the students along with all the surreal stories they hid for some of us, including Schiphol federal police and an H&M ring, Christmas angels disguised in KLM staff, immigration agents, a drug dog and Lady Gaga’s sound engineer. But this is a whole other story…
Anyway, I came back to the Verbs, all happy and excited about the new semester. And apparently I was not the only one who was excited. My building is in the heat of preparations for the new students moving in. The truth is that the first days of 2012 were kind of lonely in our floor with the exchange students moving out. But not anymore! Fresh ‘blood’ will be moving in tomorrow and our little house will be full again.
As ‘Verbs veterans’ we decided to set the good example and clean our kitchen at midnight (which is when the chores are being done in the Verbs), so that the new people will be dazzled by our tidiness. We even erased all these menacing messages about keeping the kitchen clean and the noise down during exam period, to avoid scaring them in the first place.
All the empty rooms were renovated, and every morning we were waking up to the sweet sound of drills and vacuum cleaners. The strangest wakeup call however, happened yesterday, when the first thing we saw once we opened our eyes, were people hanging outside, cleaning our windows. We are the sixth floor by the way. And no, we hadn’t closed the curtains…They were quite discrete and professional, however. No matter what they saw, they didn’t point or laugh.
As you can see, everyone is pretty excited about the new students moving in and now we are more than ready to welcome them. It’s a whole new beginning for all of us. New semester, new flat mates, new exciting stories!
