Katerina Blogs: Art Attack
When I first moved to Tilburg, I thought it would be just another small student town, with a bunch of bars and cafes where students would go once or twice a week to take off the pressure. Well, I was wrong! Tilburg is more than that. The more I explored the city, the more I realized I was wrong.
For all of you art lovers out there, there’s no need to envy the neighboring Eindhoven with its fancy Design Academy and its fancy Design Museum any more. Because Tilburg has De Pont museum of modern art! Bigger than I expected and with many interesting exhibitions. Since we are all students on a low budget, here’s a tip: the museum has free admission every third Thursday of the month, if you visit it from 5 to 8 in the afternoon.
And if you love music, the music cafes in town have a lot to offer. Just last week I discovered a great upcoming Norwegian band that I wouldn’t have otherwise known if it wasn’t for their gig at Cul de Sac on Korte Heuvel street. And if you love Jazz, Tuesdays at Paradox are a must! By the way, did you know that Tilburg is the home of a Rock Academy? (And no, I am not referring to Tilburg University. I mean ok, we are rock, but not in an obvious way.) Anyway, students of the Rock Academy give shows for free in several venues in town like the 013 Popcentrum.
These are only few of the events and places I discovered myself. There plenty more to see as long as you keep your eyes open. Because, you know what? We live in a cool city, after all!
