“College-free Board” bill in the making

Students who decide to be a full time board member do not need to pay more tuition. This is stated in a draft worked on by VVD and D66.

Receiving a grant for board members is, according to Boris van der Ham (D66) and Anne-Wil Lucas, disconnected from the enrollment as a student. During their board year students can deregister from the university. Through a contract with the university they are entitled to keep their board members grant and student accommodation.

Thus, the long study fine is not such a direct threat. The members of parliament hope that the proposal “College-free Boards” will solve the problems of many student associations. It it increasingly difficult to find board members, as many students prefer to focus on their studies for fear of the long study fine.
