Facebook users “unfriend” more

Facebook users are getting increasingly “unfriendly”, says the American Pew Research Centre at the NOS.

In comparison to last year more and more people “unfriend” and remove tags from photos. Last year, 56% of users shortened their friends list. This year that percentage increased to 63% of Facebook users . The number of users who removed their tags increased from about 33% to 40%.

Also, nearly two thirds of the profiles has been made private. Another 20% are the profiles that can only partially be viewed by people outside of the friend list.

According to the Pew Research Centre, this change is due to the fact that Facebook is used more as a normal way of communicating, thus the users manage their profiles more actively. Moreover, the users are increasingly concerned about privacy on social networks and therefore they pay more attention to their privacy settings.
