Festival Guide 2017: local festivals to visit this summer

Buzzing campsites, vegan-friendly food trucks and basslines oscillating the grass beneath your feet. With the summer break underway, it’s time to start planning for some sun-soaked festival getaways.

This weekend, the festival season will kick off with Best Kept Secret Festival in Hilvarenbeek. Did you miss out on tickets? No worries, there is still a long summer filled with festivals ahead of you. Here’s a selection of this summer’s best music festivals in Tilburg and beyond.

Festival Mundial

When: Saturday 24 June – Sunday 25 June
Where: Tilburg, Spoorzone
Tickets: €45 for the whole weekend

About: Festival Mundial is all about the crossover between different cultures, art forms and music genres. Festivalgoers can catch intimate soul performances, dance to rumba music, groove to afrofunk and enjoy Middle-Eastern electro tracks. There will be an equally diverse food line-up, with a mixture of the world’s different cuisines. Tilburg University will also be attending the festival, hosting a program of free lectures, experiments and an insect bar! 

WOO HAH!

When: Friday 30 June – Saturday 1 July
Where: Tilburg, Spoorzone
Tickets: €34,50 (sold out – try TicketSwap if you’re still looking for tickets)

About: WOO HAH! holds its fourth edition this year, turning the Spoorzone in a common ground for hiphop, rap and grime lovers. Nas, Travis Scott and G-Eazy are some of the biggest names on the bill. Rapper Gucci Mane – who has just been released from prison – will also take the stage. Expect a weekend of fresh trap beats, old school rap and a whole lot of swag.

Parkbeats

When: Sunday 2 July
Where: Tilburg, Leijpark
Tickets: €32,50

About: Hosted in Tilburg’s luscious Leijpark, Parkbeats offers a wonderful outdoor alternative to cramped dancefloors in dark nightclubs. Partygoers can enjoy the sun while they dance to sets by local DJs like Dannic, Pep & Rash and DJ Dyna.

Duikboot Festival

When: Saturday 26 August
Where: Breepark, Breda
Tickets: €29,50

About: Duikboot Festival is an electronic music fest with a relaxed atmosphere. It takes place in a grassy park in Breda, which is only a short train ride away from Tilburg. The festival features a blend of house, deephouse, techno and disco.

Draaimolen Festival

When: Saturday 16 September
Where: Tilburg, Charlotte Oord
Tickets: €39

About: Before returning to campus for a brand new semester, end your festival season with Draaimolen. An intimate setting brings the magic to this festival, hosted on the terrain of former revalidation center Charlotte Oord. Len Faki will perform in the parking lot. Other headliners are Henrik Schwarz, Red Axes and Anthony Child.
