E-sports association Link opens game room on campus
In addition to all the different study and sport associations that students can join, Tilburg University also has its own E-sports association. This association, Link, delivers a European first by opening a game room on campus.
Link started about two years ago. In the first year alone, they welcomed more than 100 members. Where most associations have offices or other rooms on campus, Link will soon have its own game room.
In an earlier Univers article, the chairman of Link explained his vision for such a game room: “About twenty computers and four televisions with consoles. If possible we would like to offer our own refreshments as well.” He explained that the game room could improve social cohesion by offering a place where competitive, casual and curious game enthusiasts could meet up.
In cooperation with Student Fraction Front, Link offered a proposal for a game room to the University Council. In the latest meeting of the University’s Financial Committee all fractions voted in favor of the proposal, making its realization a mere formality in the next University Council meeting.
Link will be offered a part of the ground floor in the student flats on the Professor Verbernelaan. The association will supply its own gaming material. Surplus furniture from the university will be used to furnish the room.
The location on the Verbernelaan is meant to house Link for the next three or four years. After that period they will probably be moved to a new part of the Student Sports Center, which is yet to be built in the current mosque.
