Tilburg University’s reaction to internationalization measures: ‘Still looking at the concrete implementation’
Dutch universities say they are taking measures themselves to control the intake of international students and increase Dutch language proficiency. What exactly this means for Tilburg University should become clear in the future. ‘Measures will be worked out in consultation with Schools and participation bodies.’
Last week the Universities of the Netherlands presented (in Dutch) a package of measures. With this, the universities themselves retain control of the intake of international students and increase Dutch language proficiency. Which measures Tilburg University will take is not clear yet.
‘At this moment it is not yet concrete what the implementation of the measures will look like for Tilburg University, in fact this will be worked out in consultation with the Schools and the participation bodies. We attach great importance to doing this in consultation with the community,’ spokesperson Imre van der Meulen explained to Univers.
In an online response, Tilburg University says it values the international community: ‘The internationalization discussion can raise many questions and concern among our (international) students and staff. And we understand. The Executive Board and the Deans are adamant that we embrace our international community. And these developments do not impact on the degree programs registered students are currently taking.’
