University creates handy online guide for student board members
How do you reserve a meeting room, what subsidies are available, how do you improve social safety? These are practical questions that starting student boards encounter again and again. At the request of Student Party Front, Tilburg University is going to set up a website with useful information for student boards.
Student associations, study associations, sports associations, and cultural associations, Tilburg University has a lot of them. There are associations for vegans, gamers, horse riders, law students, internationals, the university cantus, for basically anything and everything. All these associations have one thing in common: they get a new board every year.
Tricks of the trade
Student board members must learn the tricks of the trade in a short period of time. When the reigns are handed over, information is shared about association-specific matters such as the budget, activities and, for example, committees. But there is also a lot of practical information that can get lost or forgotten during the transfer.
‘Last year, we heard that it would be useful for student board members if you could find all the practical information in one place,’ says Balousha Gho of Front. ‘A friend is from Utrecht, and they already have such a site there. That’s what we want to do here.’
An overview
Front presented the proposal to the Education, Research and Impact (OOI) committee of the University Council on Thursday 31 October. If it’s up to Front, all kinds of things will be covered on that site. About board grants. What you can do about social safety. Which training courses are available, such as first aid. And what subsidies are available and how student boards can apply for them.
But very practical matters are also discussed, such as reserving a market stall on campus, or hanging up a banner. Furthermore, an added overview of all student boards in Tilburg with space where students can share their experiences as board members. Gho: ‘That way, it’s interesting for all students.’
Front’s initiative proposal is well received by rector Wim van de Donk. At the OOI meeting, Van de Donk announced that the website will be realized as soon as possible.
