Small decrease in enrolments at Tilburg University
For the third year in a row, there has been a small decrease in the number of enrolments at Tilburg University. This is due to a decline in Bachelor’s and pre-Master’s students. The number of Master’s students has actually increased. Declining student enrolments are a trend at all universities, reports university association UNL.
This academic year, a total of 19,178 students are enrolled at Tilburg University. That is 319 fewer than the previous year, a decrease of 1.6 percent. Similar declines also occurred in previous years, 2 percent less in 2023 and 1.6 percent less in 2022. The year 2021 was therefore a record year for Tilburg University, with 20,249 students.
The decrease this year is mainly due a waning interest of international students. A positive is that this year more Dutch students have applied for a Tilburg bachelor’s degree (57). But the number of internationals in the bachelor’s programs decreased by 125 students. There are also considerably fewer enrolments for the pre-masters, 189.
In contrast to the bachelor’s programs, the master’s programs are doing slightly better, this year. This is mainly due to Dutch students, 174 more have applied. This increase is partly due to the internal transfer from a Tilburg bachelor’s to a Tilburg master’s program, Tilburg University states in a press release.
