Professor Jeffrey Pfeffer of Stanford University was awarded an honorary doctorate from Tilburg University during its 84th birthday celebration last Thursday. Prizes were also awarded for the best educational innovation and best master’s thesis.

Pfeffer is one of the leading thinkers in the field of Human Resource Management (HRM).  He made essential contributions to bringing scientific knowledge into practice, said university professor Jaap Paauwe in his laudation.

First prize for the best master’s thesis (4000 euros) went to Danny Goossen of the Tilburg School of Economics and Management. He wrote the thesis The effects of knowledge base characteristics and dynamics upon firm performance in technical innovation: evidence from the North-American semiconductor industry. Goossen made a strong analytical and creative analysis of factors that contribute to innovation in 825 North American companies in the semiconductor industry.

Jolanda Jacobs of the Tilburg School of Catholic Theology received the second prize (2000 euros) for her thesis entitled A study of Elisabeth Catez (1880-1906) from the perspective of women’s theology. According to the jury, her thesis is creative, breaks fresh ground, is thorough and well written and is is both socially and scientifically relevant.
