This Valentine’s day, I*ESN and Academic forum organize a special lecture about the universal rules of Love and Attraction. I also want to celebrate the lovers’ day with my column, so get ready for a massive dose of sweetness and read my unconventional love letter…
This post is about Love and … Tilburg.
Tilburg, 14th February 2017
Do you know how this story about love letters on Valentine’s day began?
The first letter launching this tradition was a farewell message… It was written by Saint Valentine, one of the earlier saints celebrated in the Christian liturgy. Valentine was one of those who fought the Law but, as we know, the Law won! Contrary to the Roman Law of his times, Saint Valentine performed weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry. And he paid a high price for his foolish idea to give a chance to live happily ever after to people who were instead supposed to die, hating, in a war… he was, then, imprisoned and sentenced to death. But despite all that, Saint Valentine did not lose his desire for loving deeds! So, just before his execution, he miraculously healed the daughter of his enemy and wrote for her a farewell letter, which he signed: ‘Your Valentine!’
Mine is not a farewell letter and yet I feel strange about writing it on a train. Starting from today, I will leave you. I will leave you… everyday, early in the morning, my dearest Tilburg. But do not worry: I’ll be back by evening!
Some years ago, someone asked me about you (https://universonline.nl/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Univers-mach9-zicht.pdf) and about our relationship. And I replied then that writing about a place is like dating that place and getting to know it as if it was a human being.
After so many years of dating, I care about you, my dearest Tilburg! And I guess it is fair to confess that, maybe, I’m even in love with you! So, please, allow me to praise your secret spots by borrowing the words of some of the greatest expressions of love.
