Privacy is important in cloud computing

Privacy plays an important role in cloud computing, shows a research report on knowledge sharing in education and research through internet.

It is important that cloud computing laws and rules become clearer, according to researcher Ronald Leenes of the Tilburg Institute for Law, Technology, and Society (TILT) – the institute that conducted the research for Dutch higher education computer network SURFnet and Kennisnet (ICT innovation in education).

“There are so many roles in cloud computing that it is unclear who is responsible for what “, Leenes says.

The report De wolk in het onderwijs (The cloud in education) is meant for education and research organizations to get a better understanding of the laws and rules in cloud computing, especially with regard to privacy and data protection.

Cloud computing is sharing hardware, software and data through the internet. According to SURFnet, more and more students, teachers and researchers use cloud computing. It is important that they can exchange information and knowledge without having to worry about their privacy. [EV/transl. YV]
