Fines for cycling without light and reflectors

The Tilburg police will be on the lookout for bicyclists without lights between 31 October and 15 Januari. Cyclists that are caught riding their bikes without front or back lights pay a penalty of forty euros. Riding a bike without reflection on the rear of the bike, pedals and tires will cost you 25 euros.

Offenders who are caught during the police patrols, that start as soon as it gets dark, face on-the-spot fines. The rules for cyclists are quite strict. That is why Univers has put them together for you. Have a look so you know what to expect.

You risk a 40 euros fine when cycling:

–    Without front or rear light when evenings draw in, at dark or bad sight weather (fog)
–    With a light that flashes;
–    With lights in the wrong place. Lights must be attached to bicycle, clothing or bag, your chest or back;
–    With light illuminating to the left or right. Straight forward facing and straight backward facing is the rule.

You risk a 20 euros fine if you:

–  Cycle without red rear reflector;
–  Ride your bicycle without yellow pedal reflectors;
–  Ride a bike without white or yellow reflective tape on tires or wheels.
