Diederik Stapel: ‘I’m sorry’

Diederik Stapel says that he has failed as a scientist and researcher. The fraudulent Tilburg University professor in social psychology wrote a statement.

Stapel says he acted alone. “I wish to stress that I never informed colleagues about my inappropriate behavior.” He states to have greatly enjoyed working with his colleagues. “I offer my colleagues, my doctoral students and the entire academic community my sincere apologies,” Stapel says to realize that he has caused a lot of sorrow and pain.

“I realize that I have left my immediate colleagues behind in dismay and anger as a result of this conduct. I also realize that I have put social psychology in a bad light. I feel ashamed and I regret it deeply”, Stapel wrote. He stated that he now has help ’to find out why all this happened.”

“I wanted too much too fast”, he admitted, “In a system with hardly any supervision, where people often work alone, I have made the wrong turn. I would like to stress that the mistakes that I have made have not come from self-interest.”
