Payment to get rid of Duvelhok

Tilburg University will pay the Tilburg municipality 40,000 euros for the cancellation of the Duvelhok building sale. It is a compensation for loss of interest, said chairman of the board Hein van Oorschot during the meeting of the university council’s executive committee last Friday.

Fotograaf: John GeertsEarly November the university announced not to buy the Duvelhok building for student services in the city centre due to budget cuts the university is facing. According to the university it did not have an agreement with the municipality yet. The municipality however denied this. Van Oorschot: “But you do not want to go to court for something like this. 40,000 is a relatively small sum of money.”

At the Tilburg municipality nobody could confirm whether they knew about the offer of Tilburg University and whether Tilburg accepts the offer, a Tilburg municipality spokesman said last Thursday.
