England: higher tuition fees, fewer college applications
The rising tuition fees of English universities have resulted in a lower number of college applications. The number of applications has decreased with 10% in the last year.
With tuition fees rising up to £9.000 (€.10.768), British students are more likely to get an education abroad. Maastricht University is, with an estimated 600 British students applying next year, one of the Dutch colleges gaining in popularity amongst these foreign students.
The Universities in the United Kingdom have indicated to the BBC “this dip is far less dramatic than many were initially predicting”.
