UvA installs anti-smoking cameras
The Faculty of Humanities of the University of Amsterdam installed a camera to discourage smoking nearby the entrances of the buildings.
The management director Liduine Bremer said that “The staff and students smoking in or near the entrances of Humanities buildings do it at the expense of other employees, students and guests,” reports FoliaWeb. A spokesman for the University of Amsterdam emphasizes that students will be addressed by security guards when caught red handed.
The cameras are not the only measure taken against the habit. The signs “no smoking” were placed on campus, as well as outside ashtrays were replaced with the “butt-proof” trash bins.
Although a smoker can be easily identified by the camera, Bremer ensures that the Data Protection Act will be obeyed.
