Stapel case at national public prosecutor
The fraud case of Stapel is in the hands of the ‘Functioneel Parket’. This is a nationwide part of the public prosecution. The Functioneel Parket is the national public prosecutor’s office for financial and environmental offences and fraud.
“At the moment we are investigating if the charge has enough leads to warrant a criminal investigation. We can’t make any statements about this. The investigation will certainly take several weeks to complete,” said Paul van der Zanden of the Functioneel Parket.
Why it took so long for the case to go from the district investigation – where the accusation was filed – to the national prosecutor’s office is unknown.
