Second Master’s: saving money by comparing

Students who want to pursue  a second master’s degree can save a lot of money by comparing fees. The differences in tuition rates between Dutch higher education institutions are enormous.

For the time being, students at Tilburg University, University of Twente in Enschede and Delft University of Technology pay 1771 euros per year. For comparison: the University of Amsterdam, the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam and Groningen University ask 10.500 euros for a humanities or social sciences program (second master). Studying at Utrecht University is even more expensive (14.400 euros for a study program in humanities or social sciences), according to the new Keuzegids Masters (Masters study guide), a publication of the centre Higher Education information (CHOI) in Leiden.

A study program in Humanities or Social Sciences students is relatively cheap. A Master’s degree in Science is usually more expensive. The highest fees are asked for medical masters programs in Groningen. Medical students there pay 32.000 euros per year.
