German economist Sinn gives Van Lanschot Lecture
‘Member states that are not in a position to repay their debts, should leave the monetary union’, states Hans-Werner Sinn, Germany’s most influential economist of the moment. On Wednesday May 23 he will give the 7th Van Lanschot Lecture in the Concert Hall of Theaters Tilburg.
In his lecture, with the title ‘The European Balance of Payment Crisis’, Sinn will focus on the euro crisis and Europe’s failing policy to solve it. He argues for far-reaching adjustments of the current financial system. Besides restricting the jurisdiction of the European Central Bank, Sinn thinks of measures like forcing countries to leave the monetary union when they are not able to repay their debts.
Prior to the Lecture the yearly Van Lanschot Scholarship for the best third year bachelor’s student and the Theo Kraan Prize for the student with the best master thesis at the Tilburg School of Economics and Management will be awarded.
