IKEA builds student flats

Have you ever walked among the IKEA display pretending a “room” to be your own (but never admitted it)? Your dream might come true. The years of students’ loyalty to IKEA finally pay off, since our beloved furniture company comes to the rescue in room emergencies.  They will build extra student accommodation in cities with the biggest room shortages.

Jan Benschop, a director of student organization DUWO tells the Volkskrant that the focus is on Amsterdam and Delft, the two cities with the largest student room shortage. Benschop hopes that 5.000 additional student accommodation will be  build in the next five years. The construction contract should be ready at the end of the year. If everything goes as planned, the flat will consists of at least 200 apartments. Each apartment is a room of 17.5 square meters. As a new resident, you don’t have to worry about buying ll the furniture.  IKEA has already done it for you. The rooms are decorated with furniture that are most popular among students. The main idea is that the price of the rent will be affordable to students.
