Losing weight by taking small bites
There is a new discovery in the field of losing weight: taking little bites of food. This was the outcome of a research done by food scientist Dieuwerke Bolhuis. The research was executed with the help of tomato soup.
Bolhuis will promote on her PhD research this month at the University of Wageningen. She used test persons that had to take bites of 5 grams (with a little spoon) and persons that had to take bites of 15 grams (with a big spoon). The persons that took the little bites ate a quarter less soup than the persons who took the big bites.
Next to the fact that you eat less with a smaller spoon, the taste sensation also increases with little bites. According to the researcher this plays a big role in activating the saturated feeling. She also advised in the Volkskrant (a Dutch newspaper) this morning to take a critical look at your grocery basket. Instead of orange juice, you can better eat oranges and if you eat bread it must be hard bread because you chew longer on that. Also, yoghurt is preferable over drink yoghurt.
