Katerina Blogs: Digital nerds

Katerina blogsI believe my fellow students and I have taken nerdiness to a whole different level. It is true that when you are a Master student, campus is your second home and the library security knows you by your first name, but really; get a life.

Part of our studies is related to digital media and I think we have taken this a little bit too literally. See, recently we have introduced a new way of meeting up and working together and that is online. We all see each other, we share screens, it is pretty much as if we are together when actually we are not. It is indeed very practical and I really like it.

But maybe, we’ve been having too much fun embracing digital collaboration. The other day, we were working together for eight hours! At some point, some of us were preparing dinner, some others talking on the phone, etc. Taking breaks and still online. I actually caught myself thinking ‘This is so cool. I can totally meet my friends tomorrow online and drink coffee”. Sad.

We definitely do it because is a necessity, but I realized that you can easily turn into a ‘bubble boy/girl’. And we recognize that it is like being together. But I know what my remedy will be! Carnival! An analogue one. Have fun, drink responsibly, wear a crazy costume.
