Obama wants to invest in education

Tuesday night President Obama gave his State of the Union Address. Although he wants to reduce the budget deficit, Obama wants to invest in education.

President Obama proposed several major education initiatives in his one hour speech. The new plans focus on the oldest and youngest members of America’s education system. When it comes to higher education Obama wants to renew the federal aid system for college students.  To improve early education, Obama proposes to expand pre-kindergarten.

According to Obama every dollar spend on (early) education pays in the long run. However, his proposals were relatively modest since Obama also wants to reduce the budget deficit. In order to do so, he emphasized that tax increases for the rich are needed.
