Increase in English masters

It’s becoming easier and easier to start your master abroad. The number of European masters programs offered in English has been increasing dramatically since 2011. A whopping 42% increase indicates that offering masters programs in English is the newest trend. Netherlands is making the most of this trend, with 900 different programs offered we’re right behind Great Britain when it comes to English master programs.

IIE’s Center for Academic Mobility Research recently published a research report that clearly shows these changes. The Netherlands and Germany already scored well in 2011 and still offer a wide range of programs but Sweden and Denmark have shown an explosive increase in their numbers (74 and 73%) since 2011.

Students in 2011 could choose between 4.644 English masters programs in 2011 whereas in 2013 they have a choice of 6.407 different programs. Most programs cater to Business and Economie students (28%) and to Engineering and Technology students (21%).

Keep in mind that choosing a study abroad will mean a longer stay these days. The amount of two year masters is steadily increasing while the one year programs seem to have fallen from grace, they are decreasing.
