Big spenders and firm drinkers at Cambridge University
Despite having to raise student fees to 27.000 pounds for a degree, Cambridge University has spent almost 3 million pounds on wine last year.
A former student wondered what happened with the money Cambridge University receives an asked for the numbers, using the Freedom of Information Act. The people of King’s College, the most famous part of Cambridge University, turn out to do more than sing in the choir and worship in the charming chapel. In 2012/2013 £338,000 of their money went straight to some fine Bordeaux or a nice Chablis.
The student who found out about the wine purchase, James Sheldon, told the Daily Telegraph that he wonders how much of it was consumed behind closed doors by university fellows. Chiefs insist that most of the wine was sold on through. A part of it was drunk during the ceremonial activities that are very important for the university. Also, they say that students’ tuition fees are exclusively spent on education purposes.
