Sustainability aldermen emerging
Sixty percent of the municipalities in The Netherlands have installed an sustainability alderman. Bastiaan Zoeteman, professor in sustainability at Telos, has concluded this out of own research.
Sustainability is often considered in combination with nature. However, municipalities increasingly combine it with economy issues. On the Tilburgian municipal agenda, sustainability is an important issue. Tilburg wants to reach carbon neutrality in 2050.
Apart from the sustainability alderman, municipalities include sustainability in their coalition agreement, develop sustainability programs and test decisions with sustainability criteria.
