Grotto remains open
The Grotto will remain open. The black, glass artwork with a café in the Warande Woods has been acquired by the artist Dré Storimans. He’s forking out 140,000 Euros for the building. The Grotto was previously owned by the Fundament Foundation, but they are facing financial difficulties.
Storimans considers the purchase of the Grotto strictly as a way of preserving the work of art. He doesn’t want to interfere with its exploitation, which remains in hands of the Bonheur Horeca Group. This catering group has been responsible for the exploitation since 2013 and has a ten year contract. Director Ton Gimbrère: “Currently, we’re focusing on the ideal opening hours. This year, we opened in March. In the summer we’re open on weekdays, in the winter the weekends are added to that. We want to let the Grotto to groups in the evenings. And between half June and half July we want to start with concerts on Monday nights.”
If a new owner hadn’t been found, the Grotto would have been closed and possibly demolished.
