Higher rents for student homes
The price of student rooms in the Netherlands has increased again, numbers from Kamernet show. Finding an affordable room gets harder and harder.
In 2012, a student averagely paid 415 euros for a room. In 2013 this price was 1.4 percent higher, 420 euros. As we all know, Amsterdam is the most expensive city to live in. If you want to move in to a place in our capital, an average landlord will ask you for 538 euros at the end of each month.
Utrecht and Amsterdam have to deal with a great shortage of living space for students. In other cities, like Rotterdam, Groningen and Eindhoven, this is less of a problem, and this is noticeable in the rents. The prizes there have actually decreased in 2013.
Everywhere in The Netherlands, cities are building new housing for students. In Tilburg, the offer has grown with 20.3 percent over 2013. It is relatively easy to find a room in Tilburg quickly.
