At least 50 percent of Dutch students vote
Only ten percent of Dutch students definitely won’t go voting this Thursday. Fifty percent is sure they will go, and the rest still isn’t sure if they pick up the red pencil for the European elections on the 22nd.
Unipartners, a non-profit academic consultancy, asked more than 500 students about their voting. Most Dutch students, approximately half of them, will vote for Democrats 66, a social-liberal and progressive political party in the Netherlands. They don’t really know why, though. Only 3 percent knew who the party leader is, and most of them cannot name one candidate.
Above all, students go voting because they feel that it is their democratic duty, not because they care much for European politics. If you are a foreign student here in the Netherlands, it depends on what country you come from if you can vote. On this website, you can see what you need to do to be able to cast your vote.
