Oxford discredited for polluting investments
Students and professors in Oxford want their university to stop investing in polluting energy sources like coal. In America, the ‘divestment-campaign’ has already achieved that the university of Stanford averts all investments in coal from the investment fund, a total amount of 18.7 million dollars.
In Great Britain, the pressure on universities rises, especially for the prestigious university of Oxford. In an open letter, 64 professors write that they want the university to stop investing in coal. Deans of 14 colleges and 1500 students and employees endorse that letter.
At the end of this month, the university’s commission that guards the social responsibility of the fund has a meeting. There is a possibility that this commission advises the university to stop investing in coal.
