Emté is cheap, AH quite expensive

The cheapest supermarket in Tilburg is the Emté on Besterdring. Albert Heijn is most expensive, a survey of Tilburgers.nl shows.

In the whole month of September, the prices of several supermarkets were monitored. To establish the differences in prices, researchers checked the price of a basic grocery package. This contained basic products like eggs, cheese, pasta and toilet paper. The prices of vegetables and fruit vary a lot in general, so those products are not in the package.

Emté turned out to be the cheapest. A basic grocery package will cost you €22.61 there. A good second is Plus, where the package will cost you €24.08. The cheap prices from Emté are much lower than Albert Heijn, which is by far the most expensive. The package will cost €27.81 there. The prices of Albert Heijn have been raised in the past year, in 2013 the price for these groceries was €24.69. An explanation for this is the fact that the cheapest brand, Euroshopper, has been changed into AH basic, which is more expensive.

Ekoplaza, an organic supermarket on Schouwburgring, has been surveyed as well. It shows how expensive these types of stores are, a package costs €59.11 here.
