Internationals enjoy architecture of Tilburg

Last Friday, the new international students arrived in Tilburg. Today, the TOP week Winter Edition started and the students followed a program full of speeches and workshops. They will study, party and ice skate their way through this week. We spoke to a few of them during their lunch break.

Why did you choose Tilburg?
Hae Gyeong Lee (23), South-Korea, Business: “I heard that the Dutch speak English fluently. Apart from that, they are very proud of their education and they offer high quality education. Tilburg University is known as a good university for Economics and Business, and Business is my major. My first impression of the facilities here is very good.”

What is your first impression of Tilburg?
Nick (21), Canada, Economics: “The biggest culture shock for me is caused by the architecture here. The cobblestones, and the different buildings are very different from Canada. Back at home, all streets and buildings look the same. This city looks like it has a lot more culture and history, and that shows in the way that the city is built.”

What are you expecting of your time here?
Amanda (21), Italy, Economics: “I think it will be a lot of fun! And I also hope to improve my English while I am here, that is really important to me. My first impression of the university is that it’s completely different from universities in Italy. It looks a lot more open and seems to be very international. I think it will be a very good experience for me to study here.”

Which cities you definitely want to visit in The Netherlands?
Foteini (24), Greece, Management: “Amsterdam! All my friends that went there tell me that it’s a nice city and that you come back even more open minded than you are already. I also want to see the museums there. And I want to go to Utrecht. I came to Tilburg because a Dutch friend in Greece told me about it, and it is a good international university.”

Did you ride a bike already?
Diego (22), Peru, Management: “No, I have not got a bike yet. I do need one though, I live far from the university in Tilburg North. I did not ride a bike since I was 12. The thing that I noticed the most in my first few days here is the weather. In Peru it is 28 degrees now, and in winter it is never colder than 12 degrees. I have been freezing! I do like the culture and the architecture of the city, so far.”
