First Willem Witteveen Fellowship awarded

The first Witteveen Memorial Fellowship has been awarded to Michiel Bot, PhD in Comparative Literature and Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow at the Hannah Arendt Center for Politics and Humanities, Bard College (US). The Witteveen Memorial Fellowship on Law and Humanities was founded to commemorate professor Willem Witteveen, who died in the MH17 crash.

Michiel Bot will stay in Tilburg between late May and late August. During his stay, he will write a paper about the right to literature. He is an expert in Law and Literature, his PhD thesis focused on the legal aspects of offensive speech. This is an interesting topic at the moment, especially in Europe, after the recent Charlie Hebdo attack.

Apart from writing a paper, Bot will take part in various activities with staff and scientists. The fellowship aims to enable a junior scholar (PhD or postdoc level) to further develop his or her research in the area of law and humanities during a visit to Tilburg University.
