Notes and guns in lecture halls in Texas

Have you packed everything for your day at the university? Pens, laptop, notepad, gun? Alright, time to go to school. This might sound absurd, but in Texas it has become reality. Because of a new law, students are now allowed to attend lectures while having guns at their disposal.

It isn’t entirely new to carry guns on university ground in Texas. It has been legal to march around the campus with a gun tied to your belt since 1995. But now students don’t have to leave their gun when attending a lecture, because being armed while listening to your professor is alright.

More safe

Because of this new law, students are more safe, according to Republicans. Because of the public shootings, it’s supposedly safer for students to carry their own guns. Usually people that start shooting at random people do so at a public place, like a university.

Yet there are still certain areas surrounding the university that remain gun-free. These would be sport arenas and chemical labs, for example. The backlash regarding this new law comes from researchers who believe that this will affect the free speech at universities in a negative way. How free can a student be, when everybody has a gun in their bag. So, to keep things civilized, only 21 year olds are allowed to have guns on campus.
