Taking a nap after a busy week? Forget it. New research from Pauline Barf at the University of Groningen (RuG) reveals that napping during the weekend is, in a long run, unhealthy.

Barf came to this conclusion after a research done on rats. They investigated the effect of sleep deprivation on the metabolic regulation of the animals. Previous research suggested that a nap had a positive effect. Barf in this PhD research has now demonstrated that chronically disturbed sleep pattern causes damages to the energy economy. This can lead to obesity and eventually diabetes.
