Method of Levelt commission criticized

The methods used by the Levelt commission is debated, sources who wishes to remain anonymous told Univers. The committee is investigating the Stapel case. There are some PhD students and a co-author questioning the functioning of the commission, methods of reporting and statistical analysis. There have been discussions and letters written to the rector and to Levelt, the commission’s chairman himself.

This morning, when Univers asked Professor Levelt these questions, he denied that there are doubts about the functioning of the investigation. “It is nonsense, we are well on schedule. There is no dissatisfaction with the work of the committee. I would like to know who the source is. ”

However, Rector Philip Eijlander reacts differently: “It is true that a researcher and a co-author expressed their doubts concerning the conclusions of the Levelt committee. I have advised them to discuss it with the committee and I also know that the committee has answered them. Hearing out both sides of the case is a principle that the committee uses. In the end, of course, it is up to the committee to draw conclusions.”

The final report of the Levelt committee is expected this summer. The preliminary conclusions can be read here. Levelt also refuses to talk to the press until the final report is published.
