Katerina Blogs: The Library Saga continues
For the past month I have been living in the library. With four exams and a thesis in progress, this is literally my home away from home. But since I come from a collectivist culture, it is important for me to know that there are also other people suffering the same misery as me.
And there are. In fact, we are all getting so comfortable in the new environment…Last Saturday morning, a girl sitting to the computer next to me was watching a makeup tutorial on YouTube. Probably preparing for her transition to the outside world. Or maybe it was a “how-to-look-non-nerdy-in-the-library” kind of thing. She seemed pretty concentrated though.
Other witnesses have seen people putting on perfume and/or deodorant causing chain allergic reactions to those sitting around them, and also a few tears have been shed over stories of the world beyond the “Verbs”, where people actually HAVE a life.
But to be fair, we have been socializing even under the unfriendly circumstances that the exams/theses/tricky makeup tutorials have caused. We are even having a party after the end of the exams period, to a friend’s house near the library; so as to maintain eye contact with the building and avoid sudden deprivation syndromes. Reintegration is the challenge, but challenge accepted.
