PSCI 291-301 is canceled, prof died in spring
Penn University students, who had signed up for Dr. Henry Teune’s political science class Citizenship and Democratic Development, were shocked when they heard why their prof could not show up for class on Tuesday.
The student were waiting for half an hour and then received an e-mail from the Political Science department informing them the professor had died five months earlier.
The department had forgotten to cancel the class. “PSCI 291-301 is canceled. We are so sorry for this last minute cancellation. With Dr. Henry Teune’s passing, this course should have been cancelled over the summer and was an oversight”, the e-mail sent by the department read.
“We figured he was just late”, one of the eight students who waited for class to begin told university’s paper Daily Pennsylvanian.
Professor Teune died on April 12, 2011 at the age of 75, and had been a faculty member of the Political Science Department at the Ivy League university since 1961. He also held many leadership positions in research projects and organizations at the university and around the world, the Daily Pennsylvanian says.
Penn plans to hold a public memorial service for the professor this fall, according to the university paper.
