Bachelor-before-master rule in effect from September 2012

In its planning Tilburg University keeps in mind that the Bachelor-before-master rule, the so-called harde knip,  will be introduced on September 1, 2012. It means that students first have to have obtained a full bachelor’s degree before they can start a master’s programme. At the same time the university has asked the minister to delay the introduction in 2012.

This possibility for postponement is described in the bill ‘Ruim baan voor talent’ (make way for talent). “If the respite is given it is good, and if this is not the case, we (and students) are already prepared,” the Executive Board writes in a letter to the University council.

The Bachelor-before-master rule implementation will be discussed in the university council  later this year.

At the moment, students are allowed to have a maximum of 12 credits left to earn in the bachelor’s program at the start of a master’s degree.
