I*ESN names its new building Carpe Diem

Student association I*ESN has moved into the former d’Artagnan building in the city center of Tilburg. I*ESN has a five-year rent contract. The building was renamed ‘Carpe Diem’.

Various student associations were interested in the historic building located at Heuvelring 102 after student association D’Artagnan went bankrupt and could not pay the rent for its residence ‘Le Château de Castelmore’ anymore.

“The owner of the building was looking for new tenants and we responded. After six months of negotiations we finally succeeded to make a deal”, says I*ESN president Dennis van Erp.  The organisation already kept a first Thank God It’s Friday drink in the building last Friday. And this morning it presented the new name ‘Carpe Diem’, a Latin saying which means ‘seize the day’, on its facebookpage .

“From now on, no more ‘new building’ but a more meaningful name with which you will all feel a connection during your stay in Tilburg”, it says on the Facebookpage. The new name is the result of a name contest  I*ESN held among its members .

The student association will, among other things, keep drinks for its student members in its new home. “It will create chances to offer more and grow as an organisation”, says Van Erp. “Our ideal picture is to turn the ‘Carpe Diem building in an International Meeting Point, a place where we can organize all kinds of activities and parties for our members. Where members can go during the day to chill, study or to simply to have a chat with other international students or internationally oriented Dutch students.”

Van Erp would not comment on how the rent is paid. “So far we have been self supporting. The university, however, took care of the expertise in the whole process.”
