90-year-old joins sorority
Better late than never: a 90-year-old American lady has joined a sorority. During the 1940’s, she threw herself into student life, but after the Pearl Harbor attack she had to quit her studies at Washburn University in Kansas.
“One regret in life,” said 90-year-old Bertie McConnell about the fact that she never had time to enjoy her Zeta Tau Alpha sorority membership. She became a member in 1941, but because of the war, she quite school to work at an ammunition plant.
McConnell’s daughter, who teaches at Washburn University, told the story to her students. And the news reached members of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. They decided that now was the time to invite the old lady to become a member. Her acceptance was celebrated the way it was seventy years ago: with the same fanfare at a reception in a restaurant.
