Most foreign TiU students come from China

Tilburg University has 13,500 students. 1209 students are from abroad (8.9%). Most international students come from China. The second largest group is from Germany and the Bulgarians are in third place.

Due to its economic and technological growth Dutch universities are now targeting China. This academic year, the number of Chinese students has increased substantially at all Dutch higher education institutions. The growth rose to over three thousand, according a survey of Dutch daily De Volkskrant two weeks ago. Students from outside the EU are financially attractive. These students pay higher tuition and, in most cases, do no receive Dutch study grants.

Also Tilburg University aims to attract more students and PhD candidates from China. With the purpose to promote TiU among Chinese youngsters it opened its own office, Support Office China (TiUSO), in Beijing.

The Support Office China is staffed by Academic Liaison Officer Jacques D. van Vliet en Education Promotion Officer Peter Yang. Van Vliet previously worked as director of the Netherlands organisation for international cooperation in higher education Nuffic and the last four years he was director of Neso China. Peter Yang also worked at Neso China.
