Katerina Blogs: The return
The academic year has started. For good! Deadlines and all… It has been a strange feeling. On the one hand, I am not a newcomer anymore, but on the other, I just moved to a new place and started a new programme with new classmates. So technically, I am a new student who already knows how to print.
I have to admit that it has been hard to recover from the holidays. A month of procrastination, heat waves and sand, followed by group meetings, papers and powerpoint presentations, all from day one! Needless to say, that Tilburg welcomed me with a nice storm the day I came back from Greece. Buuuuut, it’s good to be home!*sigh*
To be completely honest, the universe or/and the crisis are contributing to my smooth transition from tanning guru to nerd freak. This year, the Greeks in campus are more than the Greeks in Athens possibly. We are everywhere and suddenly my exotic uniqueness is gone! That’s why I started going as ‘Swedish from Minnesota’. People seem to embrace it (if not suggest it, in some cases) and you still get the ‘oh, this is so exotic’ look.
However, I have started to feel like a true Master student. Suddenly, social life became the in-between classes brakes at the Esplanade which is the only place in campus to remind us of the ‘outside world’ as it looks like a cafe. What is more, the library feels like home and drinking a glass of wine alone, on a weekday, in your room, while studying, is beyond judgement.
Ok, maybe this sounds sad…Anyone up for Incubate this week??
