First speakers TEDxTilburgU announced

Thursday February 13th, TEDxTilburgU is held at Tilburg University. It was already known that the theme would be ‘living limitless’, and now some of the eleven speakers are announced. Starting February 2nd, a hundred visitors will be selected based on motivation letters. Anyone who is not selected can watch a live stream online.

PhD-candidate Ruud Mattheij will speak about integrating artificial intelligence in our lives. Student Koen Peters won the pitch competition during Night University and his subject will be exceeding our own boundaries. Theologian Frank Bosman will explain about the combination between religion and technology. Dimitri Tokmetzis, data journalist, will speak about the reliability of data.

Mattheij reveals: “I am going to talk about embodied agents: systems that are capable of perceiving reality and reacting on it in a natural way. A possibility would be that a digital person reacts to its findings in your direction. Systems that are capable of doing that have existed for a long time, but are mainly meant to support people. They are directed to obey. Using artificial intelligence, it is possible to make a system smarter and make it more sensitive for the context of reality. That way, it will be capable to make its own decisions. That way, such a system can become a substantial part of daily life. It will be like a digital family member.”

Other speakers are trendwatcher Marja Ruigrok, actress Marleen Maathuis and law alumnus, author and TNO-employee Arnold Roosendaal. During TEDxTilburgU, there will be eleven talks. You can find more information about the event on the website. Here you can also find more info about the register process. There is also a youtube-video.
