Bold start university council

During the first meeting of the university council, some strong decisions have been made. The library will permanently be open until midnight, CoRPS became a Center of Excellence and the university will experiment with opening the mensa on the weekends.

The Center of Research on Psychology in Somatic Diseases (CoRPS), a multidisciplinary research institute linked to the Psychology Faculty, got the ‘Center of Excellence’-label and a 200.000 euro grant for five years. An external research commission assessed CoRPS as excellent.

Opening hours mensa
The student fractions SAM and Front finally got what they wanted: since summer, they worked on a plan to keep mensa open, without demanding too much money from the university. Previous trials with the Esplanade did not work, and a search for other operators failed.

Now the university board has agreed with the plan to keep the mensa open from 4 pm to 8 pm on Sundays, for a period of eight weeks during the next exam period. There are some restrictions, though. One of them is that if the estimate costs for the pilot rise above 30.000, the project  will be cancelled.

Library
After a positive evaluation of the pilot, the new opening hours of the library are final. Front also wrote a proposal on warding external visitors from the library. The new opening hours are:

  • Monday – Friday from 8 AM until midnight
  • Saturday – Sunday from 10 AM until midnight

To make sure that Tilburg University-students can find a spot to work at, students have to show their student pass in the future. If they cannot show it, they have to leave the work spot.
