Obama wants free higher education

It has almost no chance of actually passing, but Obama has a mission: he wants free community colleges for Americans who are “willing to work hard”. By 2020, Obama wants the US to have the highest proportion of college graduates in the world.

According to University World News, the plan Obama has in mind would cost 60 billion dollars over 10 years. The federal government would pay the biggest part of this, 75%. The separate states are asked to chip in 25%.

In America, education is an issue that belongs to the state. The chance that Obama gets to proceed with this before his term ends, is tiny. According to supporters, this leads the way for new presidents to think about Higher Education on a national level.
