Are there limits to the freedom of speech?

The freedom of speech is a universal human right. But lately, it seems to have come under pressure. Dutch columnist Ebru Umar is not allowed to leave Turkey and may be prosecuted for offending president Erdogan on Twitter. A German comedian is awaiting prosecution in his own country for the same reason.

Is this just the way the world works nowadays? Or is the freedom of speech slowly eroding in todays the western world? The Netherlands are still number 2 in the world ranking of freedom of speech. But how solid is that position? And if it really is that good, why then is Geert Wilders being prosecuted for his ‘Less Moroccans’-statement?

Univers Magazine will dive into all these questions in the May Issue. That is why we would like to know what your opinion is on this subject.
