National Coming Out Day at the Central Library

Rainbow flags are being raised across the country in celebration of National Coming Out Day. In Tilburg, those who’ve come out as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or queer are honored and celebrated at the Central Library this afternoon. Heterosexual ‘allies’ are welcome too.

Lesbian sports journalist Barbara Barend will lead a discussion about the importance of LGBT visibility. Everyone is welcome to join the conversation.

The local celebration of Coming Out Day at the Central Library is organized by LGBT movement Roze Tilburg. “Coming out is a deeply personal decision, and often a very difficult one”, the organization states. “On Coming Out Day, the community shows that LGBTs are welcomed with open arms, and that lesbians, homosexuals, bisexuals and transgenders have nothing to be ashamed of. As a community, we show that we are proud of them and support them.”

The event will take place from 16 pm until 18 pm today, Wednesday 11 October, at the Central Library located at Koningsplein 10. Entry is free but limited, so make sure that you get to the library in time.
