Van Oorschot considers entrance passes for library
Tilburg University is considering to introduce entrance passes for the library during peak periods. Only people with a valid pass will then be allowed to enter. Chairman of the Executive Board Hein van Oorschot announced this during the University Council’s executive committee.
Van Oorschot responded to questions from student party Front about the new student regulations. The student statute says that that anyone who wishes to make use of the university facilities has to be registered as a student or external student. Front wondered what this means for the arrangement with Avans Hogescholen, which allows students from this university of applied sciences to use the university facilities.
Van Oorschot: “Now we do not give Avans students the right to facilities, but we allow them to make use of them. The agreement is mainly made because of the nearby presence of Avans Law School. However, our student numbers increase and with it the pressure on our services, especially during exam periods. Because of this growth, it is possible that we have to start with entrance passes to the library during peak periods. ”
When the university is going to introduce door control at the library is unclear. Van Oorschot: “I’m not saying we are going to do it. But the pressure rises. Even high school students are studying in the library for their final exams. I have no problem with that, as long as we have room for our own students.”
